Chorioretinal diseases are major blinding diseases, which need protracted treatment to suppress relapses and combination therapy to target their multiple pathologies, such as the overexpression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and persistent low-grade inflammation as seen in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy (Aiello et al., 1994; Funatsu et al., 2002). The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is chorioretinitis.
