Epigenome-wide association study found five methylation markers that were associated with future T2DM incidence, including ATP binding cassette subfamily G member 1 (ABCG1), phosphocholine phosphatase (PHOSPHO1), suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3), sterol regulatory element binding transcription factor 1 (SREBF1) and thioredoxin interacting protein (TXNIP), throwing new lights on the pathogenesis underlying T2DM [63]. The gene discussed is TXNIP; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
