Previous studies analyzing the distribution of TDP43-immunoreactive neuronal inclusions in patients with ALS identified both spherical and skein-like inclusions in lower motor neurons of the spinal cord as well as in the motor cortex and the substantia nigra; however, TDP43-containing aggregates in the neostriatum and dentate gyrus were neither spherical nor skein-like (75, 77). The gene discussed is TARDBP; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
