Additional analysis of major Tau fragments in PS19 neurons using an antibody against the C-terminal region (Tau46) revealed that miR-132 also reduced the levels of ~ 36 and ~ 17 kDa Tau fragments (Fig. 3e, f), the latter being previously characterized as a potentially neurotoxic fragment(s) produced by Calpain 2 and Caspase 3 proteolytic activities, significant amounts of which were found in the brains of patients with tauopathies [13, 14, 50, 51]. Here, MAPT is linked to tauopathy.
