Diets high in ω-3 LCPUFA (from fish and fish oils) increase cell membrane docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; 22:6 ω-3) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; 20:5 ω-3), competing with the synthesis of inflammatory arachidonic acid (AA, 20:4, ω − 6), which results in a reduction in prostaglandin E synthesis and inhibition of cytokine and immunoglobulin E (IgE) production associated with allergies [6]. This evidence concerns the gene IGHE and allergic disease.
