Recent studies indicate that while selective CXCR2 antagonists were found to significantly lower airway neutrophil counts in a mechanistic 1-month pilot study in more severe asthmatics (48), a lack of efficacy was observed in a larger 6-month clinical Ph2 trial [n = 640] specifically targeting CXCR2/IL-8 pathway in this defined asthma population (49). The gene discussed is CXCR2; the disease is asthma.
