Samadi et al. [16] in their study showed that there is a strong correlation between waist circumference, a mark of obesity to liver enzymes, AST, ALT, ALP, and gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) and also noted a significant correlation that this connection between hepatic enzymes and waist circumference only existed in Hispanic females and not in non-Hispanic black males and females. The gene discussed is GGTLC1; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
