CD8A and HIV-1 infection: The present work supports the hypothesis that the CD8+ T-cell responses, which the tHIVconsvX vaccines aim to elicit, have a real chance to contribute to the suppression of HIV-1 replication in vivo in Japan and other Asian populations both in the context of prevention of HIV-1 infection complementing neutralizing antibodies and in HIV cure by eradicating latently infected cells after HIV-1 reactivation.
