The most common cellular processes and pathways implicated in the pathogenesis of human HCC are telomere maintenance, WNT/β-catenin signalling and p53 cell cycle control.[3], [4], [5] However, although mutations in RAS family members are rare, a subset of HCC cases have been reported to have aberrantly activated RAS-MAPK signalling which correlates with a poor prognosis.44 This evidence concerns the gene TP53 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
