Because of the role of enhancer regions in the regulation of gene expression, we hypothesized that the identified enhancer region containing the bladder cancer risk SNPs may (allele-specifically) activate the ΔNTP63 (the TP63 isoform that is most abundantly expressed in normal urothelium and bladder cancer, data not shown) and/or LEPREL1 gene promoter activities in cis. Here, P3H2 is linked to urinary bladder carcinoma.
