Hypermethylation of the APC promoter [7, 50, 61, 62] and hypomethylation of the CTNNB1 promoter [7, 49] in AD and CRC samples have also been detected in other studies indicating that the DNA methylation alterations of frequently mutated canonical WNT pathway key genes can contribute to its constitutive activation in colorectal carcinogenesis from the premalignant adenoma stage. This evidence concerns the gene CTNNB1 and Alzheimer disease.
