In 2000, a large retrospective analysis of data more than 23,000 children reported that the incidence of type 1 diabetes did not differ from expected values, while the incidence of type 2 diabetes was higher (85 out of 23,333 children, 0.36%) than reported in children not GH-treated, probably as a consequence of an acceleration of the disorder in predisposed individuals. This evidence concerns the gene GH1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
