Unlike as for food allergy, where it is possible to define threshold levels of allergen-specific IgE and/or IgE reactivity profiles to certain high risk allergen molecules [33–35], that are indicative of severe allergic reactions, we were not able to establish associations between the severity of the sting reaction and quantitative allergen-extract-specific IgE levels, which is in agreement with earlier studies [36, 37].
