Higgins et al. found increased LOXL2 expression in the tubulointerstitial compartment of renal biopsies from patients with diabetic nephropathy, IgA nephropathy and hypertensive nephrosclerosis supporting the notion that LOXL2 may play a role in the development and progression of diabetic nephropathy and other aetiologies of renal fibrosis10.
