DHCR7-DT and preeclampsia: Preeclampsia (PE) is a syndrome that associates with placental maldevelopment in the first trimester, yielding placental dysfunction in the second half of pregnancy.36, 37 The placenta is deemed a root cause for many of the variable phenotypes of PE and immune‐based maternal‐fetal incompatibilities contribute to some forms of the PE syndrome.38 Notably, patients with this syndrome show greater systemic complement AP activity compared to normotensive women, but debate persists as to a cause‐effect relationship of this finding with the pathogenesis of the disorder.
