Glypican-3 (GPC3), a member of the glypican family, is anchored by glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) (Zhu et al., 2001; Kim et al., 2011; Avanesov et al., 2012), and highly expressed in most liver cancers, but it is absent or expressed at very low levels in normal adult tissues (Kim et al., 2011; Avanesov et al., 2012). The gene discussed is GPC3; the disease is liver cancer.
