LGALS3 and neoplasm: Galectin-3 is elevated in the sera of breast and other cancer patients [65] and it has been shown to interact with MUC1 carrying the core 1 glycan (T glycan), enhancing tumour cell aggregation [66,67] and promoting adhesion to endothelial cells by inducing polarisation of MUC1, and thus exposing adhesion molecules [66].
