Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive disorder primarily characterized by degeneration of substantia nigra (SN) dopaminergic neurons with associated loss of dopamine (DA) in the striatum (caudate nucleus and putamen), and accumulation of insoluble protein aggregates (in Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites), with α-synuclein being the most abundant component [1]. This evidence concerns the gene SNCA and Parkinson disease.
