SCLC is thought to originate from neuroendocrine cells that normally reside in the lung epithelium [1], still retaining some of the neuroendocrine cell markers, including CD56 [2, 3], chromagranin, and synaptophysin [1] or the neuroendocrine transcription factor ASCL1 (achaete-scute complex homolog-like 1 (ASCL1)) [4]. Here, ASCL1 is linked to small cell lung carcinoma.
