Taken together, CR3 appears to be the β-glucan receptor that leads to PAD4 activation and NETosis on human and murine neutrophils, which is dependent on ROS; however, although NETs contain antimicrobial peptides, we conclude that NET formation is not required for CP release or to regulate A. fumigatus hyphal growth in vitro or in the fungal keratitis model. This evidence concerns the gene CRIPTO3 and fungal keratitis.
