CACNA1A and hypertensive disorder: Successful examples of drugs developed from venom peptides include Captopril®, a peptidemimetic which was designed based on pentapeptide toxins from the Brazilian viper and which is now used for hypertension treatment [44]; Byetta®, an syncretin peptide from the saliva of Gila monster venom, and used as an anti-diabetic agent to treat type 2 diabetes [45]; and Prialt®, derived from the MVIIa omega conotoxin specific to block the subtype Cav2.1 of the calcium ion channel, from the predatory cone snail Conus magus, and used to treat chronic pain [46,47].
