Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), and C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) are produced and secreted predominantly from cardiomyocytes and endothelial cells, especially under disease conditions such as pressure overload and heart failure, and are involved in regulating sodium and water excretion and maintaining blood pressure. The gene discussed is NPPA; the disease is heart failure.
