A recent study implied that skeletal muscle-specific ALDH2 overexpression restored exhaustive exercise-induced mitochondrial dysfunction in skeletal muscle through maintaining mitochondrial function in mitochondrial complexes I and V. The benefits of ALDH2 activation include protection against various heart diseases, induced cardiomyocytes, mitochondrial injuries, and apoptosis (Zhang et al., 2017). Here, ALDH2 is linked to heart disorder.
