In light of these findings, it could be expected that langerin+ CD8α+ DCs would be important for IL-12p40 production in the context of BCG infection; however, as our data show a transient increase of IL-12p40 6 h after infection in both DT-treated and non-depleted mice, it suggests that perhaps langerin− CD8α+ DCs may be the early producers of IL-12p40, before langerin+ CD8α+ DCs are implicated by 3 weeks after infection.
