IL5 and Increased total eosinophil count: It is currently clear that, given the pivotal functions exerted by IL-5 in the induction, maintenance, and amplification of airway eosinophilia driven by type-2 inflammation, such a cytokine and its receptor represent key molecules to be targeted by monoclonal antibodies with therapeutic properties of add-on biological treatments for severe eosinophilic asthma.
