However, blood MAIT cells from patients with cirrhosis display an activated and proinflammatory profile, characterized by increased CD25 and CD69 expression and higher production of IL-17 and granzyme B. These findings are in line with data obtained in patients with viral (HIV, HCV, and HIV/HCV)14,15,33,10,11 or bacterial infections8,9, or patients with inflammatory diseases, including type-1 or type-2 diabetes, arthritic disease, inflammatory bowel disease, or systemic lupus erythematosus16–19,34.
