The two groups did not significantly differ with respect to age; gender; BMI; depth of intubation; frequency of postoperative admission to the intensive care unit; rates of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking, or alcohol use; or results for several preoperative laboratory tests, including assessments of serum albumin concentration, alanine aminotransferase, prothrombin time, and activated partial thromboplastin time.
