AKT1 and breast carcinoma: For example, the focal adhesion‐specific PIP5Kγ90 (a 90 kD splice variant of PIP5Kγ) enhances migration, invasion and proliferation of breast cancer cells.6, 7, 8 In addition, PIP5Kα is required for invadopodia formation and promotes survival of breast cancer cells.9, 10 A previous report also showed that PIP5Kα inhibition using a small compound reduced invasion and caused apoptotic cell death in prostate cancer cells.11 It is proposed that the oncogenic property of PIP5Kα is closely linked to the activation of PI3K/Akt signalling pathway.10, 11
