The study of Dong et al. [58] has demonstrated reducing effects of vitamin D3 on the expression of NOX2 and NOX4 and the levels of ROS in the models of renovascular hypertension both in vivo and in vitro. Similarly, Hirata et al. [59] have shown decreased expression of p22phox after the treatment with calcitriol analog 22-oxacalcitriol in an animal model of diabetes mellitus 2, as well as in human coronary artery endothelial cells cultured in high-glucose medium.
