Previous study suggested that people with GG/GA genotype of rs660339 in UCP2 had an increased risk for diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome; the elevated IL-6 in the subjects with GG/GA genotype suggested that these kinds of SNP was closely related to inflammation, which play an important role in the mechanism of diabetes and its complications. Here, IL6 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
