It is interesting to note that independent of a neuroendocrine role of chemerin, Cmklr1 mRNA has recently been shown to be upregulated in Alzheimer patients and in mice, it was identified as a receptor for amyloid-β peptides suggesting a potential role of chemerin in the progression of Alzheimer’s disease (Peng et al. 2015). This evidence concerns the gene RARRES2 and Alzheimer disease.
