Lower levels of AR expression in the TME was associated with a higher malignancy grade (Gleason score) of the tumor, higher tumor stage, a higher disease recurrence rate after prostatectomy, and a shorter progression‐free survival of metastasized patients treated with testosterone ablation, which suggests a protective role of AR signaling in the TME against malignant transformation and disease progression (Henshall et al., 2001; Olapade‐Olaopa et al., 1999; Wikstrom et al., 2009).
