The AKT2 gene is a partner of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway and is known to be amplified in HPV‐associated squamous cell cancers.34 Four of the other focal amplifications (ie, CDK6, MET, MDM2, and FLT3) are also targets for specific therapies. The gene discussed is AKT1; the disease is squamous cell carcinoma.
