ABCA1 and familial hypercholesterolemia: MiR‐92a expression in serum and plasma was increased in unstable CAD patients, suggesting that this miRNA could serve as biomarker for the detection of CAD.6, 40 Further, in plasma, miR‐135a levels were decreased in subjects with familial hypercholesterolemia, while miR‐223 levels were increased.3 MiR‐223 plays a role in cholesterol homeostasis and increased ABCA1‐mediated cholesterol efflux from hepatocytes.7 However, our results do not support this finding in J774 macrophages, which might be due to the fact that a different cell type and acceptor were used.
