In prostate (PC3) and breast cancer (MCF-7) cells, administration of β-caryophyllene (CPO) for 6 h significantly hindered the constitutive activation of PI3K and serine/threonine protein kinase AKT in a dose-dependent pattern (10, 30, and 50 μM) which directly decreases the rate of cell proliferation [11]. The gene discussed is AKT1; the disease is breast carcinoma.
