In fact, after AFB1 exposure, human hepatocytes showed six up-expressed and hypomethylated genes, such as Cyclin K (CCNK), Diaphanous Related Formin 3 (DIAPH3), histone cluster 1 H2B family member f (HIST1H2BF), RAS Oncogene 27A (RAB27A), Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen (PCNA) and Thioredoxin Reductase 1 (TXNRD1), that can be used as early markers of HCC development correlated to AFB1 [53]. The gene discussed is PCNA; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
