The intravenous (IV) formulation of TXA is a synthetic lysine derivative acting through competitive inhibition of lysine binding sites on plasminogen, thereby reducing the local degradation of fibrin clots by plasmin.[34–38] Consequently, TXA is a prime candidate for minimizing cases of postoperative anemia and, ultimately, decreasing transfusion rates. This evidence concerns the gene PLG and anemia (phenotype).
