Several genes related to lysosomal trafficking, lysosomal function and hence autophagy [e.g. LRRK2, GBA, ATP13A2, RAB7L1, etc.] have been implicated in PD [6] and genome-wide association studies suggest that polymorphisms in loci close to genes controlling proteins in the lysosomal-autophagy pathway influence the risk for sporadic PD [69]. The gene discussed is GBA1; the disease is Parkinson disease.
