At the system level, ASIC3 is involved in neurosensory mechanotransduction of low-threshold baroreceptors, proprioceptors, skin nociceptors, and the cochlear; indeed, Asic3−/− mice show deficits in blood volume expansion-induced diuresis [72], proprioceptive behaviors while walking on a balance beam [40], pressure-induced vasodilatation in skin [73], and age-dependent hearing loss [74, 75].
