Although the glucose tolerance tests did not show obvious differences between the hyperinsulinemic monkeys from that of the MetS (Fig. 1d), the basal and glucose-stimulated insulin levels were profoundly greater in these hyperinsulinemic monkeys than that in controls or MetS monkeys (316, 452, and 67 μU/ml for #960109, #950807, and MetS at basal, respectively; and 913, 1124, and 206 μU/ml for 960109, 950807, and MetS after glucose challenge, respectively) (Fig. 1e). The gene discussed is INS; the disease is metabolic syndrome.
