Notably, baseline circulating levels of CaMK2B and CMPK were higher in those patients with poor functional outcome than patients with good functional outcome (6.23 ± 1.96 ng/mL vs. 5.02 ± 1.41 ng/mL, p = 0.046 for CaMK2B; 1.43 [0.9–2.39] ng/mL vs. 0.62 [0.62–1.09] ng/mL, p = 0.019 for CMPK), but did not associate with stroke severity, as measured by the NIHSS at admission (p = 0.734 and p = 0.773 respectively).
