Although simtuzumab was tested in combination with chemotherapy—a FOLFIRI regiment in colorectal cancer and gemcitabin in metastatic pancreatic carcinoma—the two studies were not designed to provide for a potential drug delivery improvement after LOXL2 targeting, rather the studies were based on the previous preclinical findings that LOXL2 inhibition by itself affects tumor progression.
