In this study, we aimed to examine the long-term effect of maternal HF diet exposure on the male offspring’s risk of obesity and to explore whether this was associated with epigenetic changes in the promoter and neuronal enhancer regions of Pomc. In addition, we tested for any interactive effects of different combinations of maternal HF and low-fat (LF) diets with postweaning diets that might reflect any (mal) programmed changes in hypothalamic metabolic circuitry following early life overnutrition. This evidence concerns the gene POMC and hydrops fetalis.
