Platelet recruitment and DVT in the conditions of hypobaric hypoxia, such as encountered at high altitude, depend in a mouse model also on assembly of NOD-like receptor family, pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome [25], a molecular platform triggering autoactivation of caspase-1, which cleaves the proinflammatory cytokines, interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-18, into their active forms (reviewed in [89]). This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and deep vein thrombosis.
