Progressive changes in mineral homeostasis with disruption of normal calcium and phosphate balance are associated with changes in the phosphaturic hormones like fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) and parathyroid hormone (PTH), and abnormalities in vitamin D metabolism, and these result in complications of secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) [3]. Here, FGF23 is linked to secondary hyperparathyroidism.
