Over recent decades, targeted and less toxic chemotherapeutic protocols have been developed.31 The most recent 2016 NCCN guideline for IBC recommends preoperative systemic chemotherapy using anthracycline‐ and taxane‐based therapy with the addition of HER2‐targeted therapy in tumors with HER‐2/neu overexpression.9 Additional improvements appear to be due to advances in diagnostic technology that detect IBC earlier, which translate to earlier treatment, and adoption of multimodality treatment to improve oncologic outcomes for IBC patients.5, 6, 7, 8.
