There are three main types of DM including “Type 1 DM” (insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) or juvenile diabetes) related to the pancreatic cells’ failure to produce enough insulin; “Type 2 DM” which occures due to insulin resistance of body cells and so-called "non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus" (NIDDM) or "adult-onset diabetes" that may be results of obesity and not enough exercise; gestational diabetes is the third type and occurs in pregnant women without a previous history of diabetes (2).
