PCT concentrations in patients with Gram-negative bacteremia (26 ng/ml (7.7–63.1)) were distinctly higher than in patients with Gram-positive bacteremia (7.1 ng/ml (2.0–23.3)) or candidemia (4.7 ng/ml (1.9–13.7)) (p < 0.001) (Fig. 1a). The gene discussed is CALCA; the disease is Candidemia.
