FLT4 and neoplasm: It is known so far that VEGF‐C is the main lymphangiogenic growth factor in both physiological und pathological settings.12 After processing, VEGF‐C develops a higher affinity for VEGFR‐3, which is exclusively expressed on LEC.13 The expression of VEGF‐C first occurs during embryogenesis, but remains high in adult lymph nodes.14 The VEGF‐C/VEGFR‐3 signalling pathway is essential for tumour‐associated lymphangiogenesis.15 VEGFs not only influence lymphangiogenesis directly but also interact with other factors both directly and indirectly.
