Since immunodeficiency-related B-cell LPDs, including the post-transplant lymphoma and subsets of DLBCL, are characterized by EBV latency III, we suggest that the EBV-encoded latency III proteins may be involved in the regulation of CCL2–CCR2 signaling, which is a part of the immune-response machinery, thus affecting the pathogenesis of these malignancies. Here, CCR2 is linked to diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
